From early time imagery and guided imagery have been utilized to address the whole person and this will likely continue far into the future (Cantwell, 2016). Imagery can serve as a doorway into the self, to the deeper self and to indicate aspects of the self that need attending to (Bush, 1995). All domains of the human being can be accessed through imagery, whether physical, emotional, social, or spiritual (Cantwell, 2016). Imagery provides an opportunity to connect with one’s self and to find inner knowing. In this workshop participants will discuss holistic, humanistic/existential orientations in music therapy and how imagery can be incorporated into the work. Following the discussion, the participants will be introduced to yoga for relaxation, then invited to experience imagery in music for themselves and then create mandalas for use in mediation. Participants will be encouraged to reflect upon areas for professional and personal growth, setting goals for self-care.
